Young people get their news from the web - USA Today reports

Julia Ceaser presents BBC Business on a screen with redundant screen estate

That Young people turn to the web for news, reported byUSA Today should come as no suprise, though you know there will be a few execs tututing.

Trend extrapolate those findings and the future looks er, not very bright.

More staggering is that knowing this you'd think TV execs would think about cross linking as an idea.

Simple, above, Julia Ceaser ( yes that's her real name and she's heard all the jokes) presents BBC Business.

Julia is an old colleague from the Channel One TV - Videojournalism revolution days of 94.

The screen she's presenting within is neat, with wide TV estate - doing, er, nothing.

Similarly Fiona Bruce, BBC TV would have presented a news programme, in which many of the items would warant further attention and could possibly expand its coverage online.

So what would it take for execs to have a link below the screen telling you where you can pick the news item from?

Yes it's a no brainer, but it's a cross link from one media to another.

Likewise online for those appointment TV people tell em what they could be missing at the scheduled 10.00 pm

Paradigm shift was the post before this, talking about current Masters student. Paradigm shift is what one suspects TV land could do with.

And by the way I went across all the channels - all hybrids of one another. . . no wonder young people get their news from the web

Behind the Scenes - BBC Newsnight

Going to BBC Newsnight somewhere in the non-distant future. The editor and I have discussed a behind-the-scenes making of...

The idea is you get to see how a prog is put together over a day which could be instructive to academics, students, programme makers, and assortment of audiences.

If you've seen 8 Days you'll get some idea though the one I did with the Financial Times which I haven't had time to make is more accurate. It follows the making of an item for the Bank of England monetary report ie from the inception to it finally going online. You get to hear the decision making, Rob, one of the editots on the Intercative desk producing the feature speaking fluid VJ language:" I don't know that we've got enough sot here. Shall we limit the 3:6:9 seq" and the buzz of the new.

And there's a moment that shows Rob's skills professionally charming the City of London police who want to know whether he has filming rights. Filming rights to film on the street I thought. Grrr!

Anyway's Newsnight. What would you like to know or have me ask and I'll use your name and details in the questioning. ie Mary Bower from thinktank.gov wants to know why Newsnight is. . .?

BTW I worked at newsnight in the early 90s and researched for Jeremy Paxman on a couple of occasions. Doubt he'll remember that.

Newsnight Interview

A rare interview with the editor of BBC Newsnight, Peter Barron, who counts within the BBC as one of the more progressive television 2.0 bods, and that's according to senior figures within the BBC.
I hadn't intended the interview. I was showing Peter the gear to report digital broadcast stuff and how the next generation of journalists will really be IM6VJs ( interactive multimedia video journalists)
So as we finished talking and he was in a rush to another interview, I asked him a few questions. Now that's one of the pluses of carrying a small digi-camera, the A1 in your bag.
Sadly, I didn't have my tie mic with me and so the sound is a bit ropey, but I think the piece gets by with it.
